Drayton Travel Health Advice Service
Welcome to Drayton & St Faiths Travel Health Advice Service and Registered Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre
SHORTAGE OF TYPHOID VACCINE
INFORMATION FOR PATIENTS REGISTERED TO THIS SURGERY.
Due to circumstances beyond our control there is a shortage, countrywide, of Typhoid vaccine. When your travel risk assessment form is assessed by the Travel Nurse if you require Typhoid vaccine you will be offered an appointment in the month period from 25th of one month to the 25th of the next month nearest to the date of your departure subject to availability of the vaccine. This is because we only have a limited supply allocation and need to prioritise its usage.
We hope to avoid the situation where we have no available vaccine in any month but please be aware that this may be the case especially if you are travelling at short notice. Under these circumstances you will need to make other arrangements to receive this vaccination and it will not be available as a free NHS vaccine through your registered surgery.
We apologise for the inconvenience that this may cause but hope that you can understand the shortage is beyond our control and the way we will be allocating vaccine is to try and make it available to most if not all.
INFORMATION FOR NON-REGISTERED / PRIVATE PATIENTS
Due to the shortage of vaccine at this time we are unable to offer Typhoid vaccine to non-registered / temporary registered / or Private patients.
Here at The Drayton & St Faiths Medical Practice we offer a comprehensive personalised professional travel health service to both Registered and Private Patients.
The Travel Advice and Vaccination Clinics are led by Donna Thain, one of our Practice Nurses, who has undergone specific training in travel health.
The Practice is registered to NATHNAC (National Travel Advice Centre) and TRAVAX and can therefore access the latest travel information and warnings and for complex travel plans or specific health problems contact a consultant specialist in travel medicine.
We are also a registered yellow fever vaccination centre.
We do not undertake travel advice by phone and ask that you access the clinic / information as follows:
- Visit the website www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/
- If you are registered with the Practice and have a brief query regarding vaccinations, you can use our "Request for Travel Health Advice" Form. This can be collected from the Practice or downloaded here. Once completed and returned, our Travel Nurse will contact you within seven days
- A Full Travel Consultation can be booked with our Travel Nurse for both registered and private patients. You will need to contact the Surgery on 01603 264600 to arrange an appointment, and you will be asked to complete a "Travel Risk Assessment Form" prior to the consultation. This form can be collected from the Surgery or downloaded here. This form must be completed and returned to the Surgery Two working days before the appointment.
Your appointment initially will be approximately 20 minutes, we will risk access your travel, advise you and plan a vaccination programme. Where possible we will commence vaccination on the day. We will provide anti malarial medication or prescriptions if required. All vaccinations and anti malarials are usually held in stock.
Unless you have booked an appointment for other family members/ travellers in the party, this appointment will be for you only and the nurse will be unable to discuss others due to confidentiality and time restraints.
IF FOR ANY REASON YOU DECIDE YOU DO NOT WISH TO ATTEND THIS APPOINTMENT PLEASE REMEMBER TO CANCEL IT.
This appointment is for travel advice and vaccination only and the nurse will not be able to discuss other medical issues or carry out other procedures at this time.
Please be aware that if you are not a registered patient at this surgery you will be seen as a Private patient and therefore all vaccinations, malaria prophylactic medication and private prescriptions will be charged for. The cost of consultation for private patients is £10; this will be deducted from the cost of vaccinations or medication should you receive them. Registered patients will be charged for some vaccines and all malarial prophylactic medication.
IT IS ESSENTIAL FOR ANY ENQUIRY OR CONSULTATION THAT YOU PROVIDE A FULL TRAVEL ITINERARY LISTING ALL DESTINATIONS, INCLUDING AREAS AND REGIONS OF THE COUNTRY YOU ARE VISITING AND TIME SCALE YOU WILL BE PRESENT IN THEM.
